Even though we are not officially done with summer, OR’s fall schedule kicked in to high gear a few weeks ago. While we had a group of Soldiers hunting for old drum in the waters of Pamlico Sound, a group of volunteers was in Nash Co. getting blinds ready for our September 7th dove shoot. A lot is happening , and all of it is good. Serving those who sacrifice is more than a by-line, it is the heartbeat of OR and Friday/Saturday proved it.
Currently, we have 24 partnering chaplains who minister to over 10,000 of our active duty warriors. OR is uniquely positioned to help these chaplains engage with their people and stay encouraged as they serve. That last part came into focus for me as I talked with a chaplain a few days ago.
As we were catching up on our families and work, he told me something I had never heard. This chaplain shared that during one difficult deployment, he struggled with whether or not he should stay in the Army or get out and go back to pastoring in a local church.
My friend said that because of the relationship he had with OR and the constant support that our organization had provided him through events and relationships, he decided to stay the course. Which was good because I know for a fact that this specific chaplain has been used to give Soldiers hope, which in turn has saved lives and marriages.
Because of our partners who give time, talent and treasure, OR not only impacts our nation’s warriors, but also the chaplains who are there to help preserve the fighting force and their families. To those of you who give regularly, you provide OR the ability to serve our nation’s warriors. For those of you who are not currently supporting OR, please consider doing so.
